Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe is a four star hotel located in South Lake Tahoe where US 50 crosses the California/Nevada state line. The only other equivalent lodging in the South Lake Tahoe area are located a few hundred feet away at Harrah's Lake Tahoe hotel and casino on the Nevada side and at Marriott Timber Lodge on the California side. Conveniently within a two minute walk is Heavenly ski resort and four Nevada casinos for gambling, fine dining, and entertainment.
Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe
As guests arrive at the hotel, parking is available from the hotel via paid valet parking, which is $25 per day as of this writing. Many guests attempt to avoid this charge by choosing to park at the nearby Harrah's Lake Tahoe hotel and casino parking lot, which is directly behind the Embassy Suites hotel property. Keep in mind there are signs warning that non-customer cars could be towed. Another reason to use the valet parking is to use it during days with snowfall. The driveway to the Harrah's parking lot can be very icy for both driving and walking. The valet parking is also covered, so there is no need to scrape ice and snow off the car during winter mornings.
As typical with other Embassy Suites hotels, there is an evening reception with snacks and drinks at the second floor atrium during the late afternoon for all registered hotel guests. Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members have a separate reception area that they may choose to go to instead if the regular manager's reception is too crowded.
Rooms are the typical Embassy Suites two bedrooms with a sofa bed in the living room as well as a separate bedroom. Because of the large size of the rooms, the hotel, as well as other Embassy Suite hotels, is suitable for families needing the extra space. The views from this nine floor hotel vary considerably from bad to wonderful depending on the location. The best views in the hotel face Lake Tahoe, which often has very nice sunsets.
In the morning, the hotel provides free hot breakfast for guests including made-to-order omelettes. Unfortunately, the lines at breakfast can get very long during periods when the hotel is at full occupancy. Frustrated guests have been seen leaving to go to McDonald's for breakfast. Unfortunately, room service breakfast is not offered as of this writing. During less busy times, the breakfast line is short and pleasant, and the food is very good.
Skiing and Snowboarding From Nearby Heavenly Ski Resort
During the winter, the hotel provides free ski and snowboard check so that guests do not have to lug their equipment to their room after a long day of skiing and riding. That's very useful since less than a block west of the hotel is the Heavenly ski resort's gondola. The Heavenly gondola takes skiers, snowboarders, and sightseers to the 9,000 foot level of the ski resort which provides fantastic views of the Lake Tahoe area during both winter and summer. Lift tickets can be bought at the bottom of the Heavenly gondola.
If there are inclement conditions such as heavy snowfall or high winds, the gondola will not be open. When the Heavenly gondola is on wind hold, it is usually best for skiers and snowboarders to drive or take a shuttle to Heavenly's California lodge, which is almost always open in any weather condition. The roads to Heavenly's California lodge always requires four-wheel drive or tire chains during heavy snowfall.
South Lake Tahoe Casinos
The casinos on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe is only a short walk away with Harrah's Lake Tahoe hotel and casino requiring only a one minute walk. At Harrah's and other nearby casinos, guests can enjoy casino gambling as well as dancing, shows, and fine dining.
Overall, Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe is an excellent option for a luxurious winter or summer vacation to Lake Tahoe. Despite a few shortcomings, vacationers can't go wrong choosing this hotel.
